Mosaic Tile Art Class at the Walt Disney World Resort

Mosaic Tile Art Class at the Walt Disney World Resort

When you stay on site at the Walt Disney World Resort, there are SO many fun activities to participate in right at your Disney hotel. Many of these activities are free for you to enjoy, and some are paid experiences. Be sure to check with a cast member when you check in to your hotel, and ask where you can find the activities board to see what sort of things are offered during your stay.

Some of the activities may include:

  • Tie-Dying
  • Mosaic tile art class
  • Painting class
  • Exercises classes
  • Campfire and S'mores
  • Trivia
  • Movie nights

On my most recent trip, I was able to participate in the Art de la Mosaique class at the Riviera Resort! This is an activity that I have wanted to do for a long time, so I am so glad I got to experience it.

Most of the mosaic tile art classes aren't advertised on the My Disney Experience app or the Walt Disney World website. The one class that you CAN pre book 60 days prior to the class, is at Coronado Springs. I found out that many of the other Disney resorts offer this art class - but you have to sign up with a cast member, and you can't sign up on the app or on the website.

When I spoke to a cast member at my class, she told me the following resorts offer the mosaic tile art class:

  • Coronado Springs Resort
  • Riviera Resort
  • Contemporary Resort
  • Port Orleans Riverside Resort
  • Port Orleans French Quarter Resort
  • Boardwalk Inn
  • All Star Music Resort
  • Animal Kingdom Lodge

If you aren't "crafty", don't worry! Cast members help you every step of the way to ensure you follow the correct steps in making your mosaic tile art piece.

Step 1 is to choose your design and lay out your tiles on paper as a "rough draft. At the Riviera Resort, you could choose between Mickey, Minnie, and the Tangled star. The designs you can choose from at the other resorts vary, and personally, I wouldn't mind doing them all one day!

Step 2 is to start deciding where you want your tiles to go - and using your paper design as a template so that you can then transfer it onto your real art piece.

Once you're happy with your design on paper, you can start transferring your gems onto your art piece and sticking them on using glue provided by the cast members running the class.

Once the glue is dry, you will be provided with some grout (we got to choose between white or black) to spread onto your art piece. At first this looks really strange, since all of the gems get covered up when you're trying to fill in all the empty spaces between the gems. Don't worry - trust the process! Once all the cracks are filled in, you allow the grout to harden for a few minutes, and remove the excess using the back of a spoon and a wooden tool provided to you.

This is what my mosaic looked like when I brought it back up to the room! The grout was still wet, and the cast members told me I could wipe it clean later that evening. I decided to let it dry overnight, and I wiped it clean in the morning. I actually didn't clean it up fully until we got home, and I am so impressed with how this art piece turned out!

This activity was $35 USD per mosaic art piece. I definitely thought it was worth it! The class was 2 hours long and we got to watch Tangled when we made our art pieces. The cast members were very helpful and ensured we had all of the tools we needed to be successful.

If you want to participate in this activity on your next Disney vacation - be sure to ask a cast member how to sign up when you check in. At the Riviera, we signed up in the Eventi room 1 week in advance and had to pay up front to secure our spots.

I absolutely love that when you stay at a Disney resort - it's not just about creating a magical experience in the theme parks. Cast members want you to have a magical experience at your resort, too!
